The Building Designers Association of NSW
The Building Designers Association of NSW is a dynamic organisation whose members have proven technical and design competencies.
BDA members design hundreds of millions of dollars worth of projects in NSW every year including new dwellings, alterations and additions, townhouses, multi-storey apartments, and all types of industrial and commercial buildings, while also providing clients with the expertise in design and documentation to meet all the stringent requirements of local government building approvals.
Building Designers are responsible for over 80% of all new dwellings in NSW and BDA Members are proficient in energy efficient design, and many specialise in sustainable design. All BDA Chartered members participate in a continuous Professional Development Program.
BDA works closely with Local, State and Federal Governments at all levels to assist with policy formation ect. In addition, the BDA regularly liaise with other relevant organizations such as the Housing Industry Association and the Master Builders Association.
Sorensen Design has been a Proud Member of the BDA for the past 9 years, and have won the annual BDA Award for Residential Alterations & Additions in 2008 and 2009 along with Best Residential Interiors in 2009. Sorensen Design is featured several times on the BDA website and also feature in the BDA’s magazine - Award Winning Design.
HIA - Housing Industry Association
HIA is the Housing Industry Association – the voice of Australia’s home building industry.
The Housing Industry Association is Australia’s largest residential building organisation. Members include builders, trade contractors, design professionals, kitchen and bathroom specialists, manufactures and suppliers.
HIA Home Ideas Centre - Newcastle
The HIA Home Ideas Centre’s are free, permanent exhibitions of products for building, renovating, decorating, landscaping, architecture and interior design.
Sorensen Design has a permanent exhibition at the Newcastle Home Ideas Centre. This free centre is open seven days a week, and is able to supply literature for the hundreds of products on show.
Nelson Bay Chamber of Commerce
The Nelson Bay and District Business Chamber plays a vital role within the local business community. The Chamber is a non profit organisation and acts as a liaison between members and all levels of government.
The Chamber has over 120 members who work together to contribute in a positive way to the long-term economic stability of the area.
Creating a business environment that enables all business groups to work in unison for the benefit of Nelson Bay and District.
The Nelson Bay chamber of commerce also provides members with professional and personal development opportunities through training and educational activities.

The Institution makes possible professional recognition amongst surveyor’s peers, the community and other professions. It promotes the continuing development of the surveying profession through an array of school programs, promotional DVD’s and tertiary education support.
Master Builders is the major Australian building and construction industry association. Its primary role is to promote the viewpoints and interests of the building and construction industry and to provide services to members in a broad range of areas including training, legal services, industrial relations, building codes and standards, industry economics and international relations.
Today, MBA's membership consists of large national, international, residential and commercial builders and civil contractors through to smaller local subcontracting firms, as well as suppliers and professional industry advisers. Membership of the MBA movement represents 95% of all sectors of the building industry.
