Waterfront Retreat
The property location for this house was originally the purchasing point for the clients. They secured the holiday house, a semi renovated 1950’s cedar style cottage, after falling in love with the tranquil bush land setting, the waterfront reserve position & the treed, rocky outlook. The brief was to preserve the privacy & serenity of the natural environment while incorporating contemporary architectural luxuries.
With the views and living areas facing South, the original house lacked Northern light. The solution involved removing several internal walls, the addition of two Northern decks & maximising Northern glazing. This enabled an open-plan layout which enjoys positive living space, views, & outdoor entertainment areas.
The large North-facing deck creates a positive outdoor living space, whilst connecting the existing garage, which was converted into a single self contained studio unit to accommodate guests. In addition to the clever internal alternations to layout, a internal stair case was also added to provide internal access between levels, which the cottage previously lacked. Thus connecting the warm homely environment & outdoor lifestyles. The house & location provides an idyllic waterfront existence, truly capitalizing on the surrounding harmonious environment.
Bay Street
The clients brief was to provide design solutions and documentation for a detached workshed and deck extension to the back of their existing single storey house
The simple deck design takes advantage of the North facing backyard; harmoniously connecting the existing house and outdoors to create a sunny, positive outdoor entertainment space. The compact and cost effective workshed design also utilises the sunny Northern backyard and easily accessable for the main house and new deck area.
